I believe clay pipe remnants are also one of the more frequently found objects found at sites associated with the armies of the American Civil War.

This will encourage me to look more into the story of my gggf, Francis Edmonds. Born in Brancaster, Norfolk in 1830, he was recorded as a Tobacco Pipe Maker in 1871, living in Reigate, Surrey.
